เขาสวมวิกเกือบตลอดเวลา ราวๆ 20 ชั่วโมงต่อวัน ถึงกับผมร่วงเพราะความเครียด เขาเหน็ดเหนื่อยมากเพราะ รับบทนำ จึงต้องท่องจำบทจำนวนมาก ที่ยากกว่านั้น คือบทใช้ภาษาโบราณ เขาใช้เวลาถ่ายทำ ซอดองโย เกือบปี แต่ว่าเขาไม่รู้สึกเสียใจเลยที่รับเล่นเรื่องนี้ เพราะเขาทุ่มเทเต็มที่กับการถ่ายทำ
“คน เราใช้ชีวิตไปวันต่อวัน ทั้งที่รู้ว่าวันหนึ่งต้องตาย ผมคิดว่าเราไม่ควรอยู่ต่อไป หากไม่รู้จักเก็บเกี่ยวความสุขจากสิ่งที่ทำ ในแต่ละช่วงเวลาผมมองว่าการแสดงก็เหมือนกับการใช้ชีวิต ถ้าผมมองว่าการแสดงเป็นแค่อาชีพ แทนที่จะเป็นเหมือนงานอดิเรก หรือกิจกรรมที่ผมชอบชีวิตผมคงไม่มีความสุขแน่ บางทีผมอาจจะทนรับความกดดันไม่ไหว ถ้าผมไม่รักการแสดงอย่างนี้”
สิ่งที่เขาพูดเป็นเรื่องจริง หลายต่อหลายครั้งดารามีชื่อเสียงโด่งดังได้ เพราะทำกิจกรรมอื่น นอกเหนือจากการแสดง
“ผมพยายามหลีกเลี่ยงกิจกรรมอื่นๆ นอกเหนือจากการแสดง มันอาจจะดี ที่ได้เห็นอีกด้านหนึ่งของผม ที่สวมใส่ชุดหรูๆ บนจอทีวี เป็นการให้ความบันเทิงกับแฟนๆ ผ่านรายการบันเทิงต่างๆ ได้เห็นผมหัวเราะ
และพูดมากๆ แต่ผมคิดว่านั่นไม่ใช่การแสดง
มันไม่ใช่ “ที่ๆ ถูก ที่ควร” ซึ่งผมจะทุ่มเทพลังทั้งหมดให้ แน่นอนดาราบางคนอาจจะมีช่วงเวลาพิเศษนอกเหนือจากการแสดง และพวกเขาอาจทำได้ดีและสนุกกับมัน แต่ว่าบังเอิญผมไม่มีความสามารถเช่นนั้น (หัวเราะ) ผมยังเป็นนักแสดงที่ไม่ดีพอ คุณรู้ใช่ไหม ผมคิดหนักเลยนะ ก่อนจะให้สัมภาษณ์วันนี้ (หัวเราะ)”

“พูดตามตรง ผมไม่ค่อยอยู่ลำพังเลย ผมยังอยู่กับครอบครัว นับตั้งแต่ผมเริ่มชีวิตการแสดงเมื่อ 7 ปี ก่อน อืม…ผมชอบขี่จักรยาน แล้วก็ดู ดีวีดี ผมมักจะสวมเสื้อยืดคอกลมกับกางเกงยีนส์ ขี่จักรยานริมฝั่งแม่น้ำฮัน ผมขี่จากแถว เย อี โด จนถึง ชอง ดัม ดง ริมน้ำ เวลาอากาศดีๆ มันรู้สึกดีมากครับ ผมรู้สึกถึงเหงื่อที่ไหลอยู่บนหลังของผม คุณไม่รู้สึกว่ามันสบายหรอก เพราะหายใจไม่ทันและเหนื่อย
จากการออกกำลัง ไม่มีใครจำผมได้หรอกครับ เพราะผมไม่ได้แต่งหน้า ที่จริงผมไปอย่างนั้นบ่อยๆ นะครับ (หัวเราะ) ผมไม่เลือกหนังประเภทไหนเป็นพิเศษ เวลาดู ดีวีดี ผมไม่มีผู้กำกับ หรือนักแสดงคนโปรด แต่ผมชอบเปรียบเทียบการแสดง ของคนอื่นกับตัวเอง และดูการกำกับแบบต่างๆ”
นักแสดงหนุ่มอายุ 28 ปี ยังอาศัยอยู่กับครอบครัว และรักการขี่จักรยาน! ช่างทำให้ฉันนึกถึงหนุ่มน้อยน่าตาดี ที่แสนอบอุ่นข้างๆ บ้าน เป็นเพราะภาพพจน์แสนดีของเขาหรือเปล่า เขาอยากเล่นบทร้ายๆ บ้างไหม?
“ครับ ผมอยากลองดูเหมือนกัน ผมดูหนังดังของ อัล ปาชิโน เรื่อง Scar Face หลายครั้ง ผมว่าหนังเรื่องนี้ ไม่ใช่หนังแก๊งสเตอร์ธรรมดา ผมคิดว่าการแสดงของเขามันสมจริงมาก มันยิ่งกว่าการแสดงธรรมดา หนังเรื่องนี้สร้างปี ค.ศ.1983 กว่า 20 ปีแล้ว แต่เขากลับดูธรรมชาติมาก แม้จะดูในช่วงเวลานี้

His melancholy eyes look like they’re about to shed a bucket of tears any moment. His free and pure spirit looks like it’s about to fly away to unknown places with the wind… Actor Jhj’s nice and good image shows these. The concept of his picture on the cover page was perfectly breaking his beautiful image: a boy from a fairy tale. The editor’s high-voiced exclamation to make this concept was, “Let’s make him a perfect, but mean and rough guy!”
How can we wash away his image from our minds; a brightly laughing face with a bundle of flowers in his hands, matching pastel tone jacket and loose pants? Jhj, wearing denim pants and a white tee with a bold haircut, shook his hands with the editor. His outlook, just like a student who prepares for the national test, made the editor speechless.He totally changed himself to a rough young man who suffered life’s bitterness in his early age when he finished his make-up and wardrobe and stood in front of the camera at an angle. His pure and good image fully gone, he showed a charisma which seemed to overpower the atmosphere. I thank Jhj who transformed himself perfectly, with the help of make-up and costume designers, who all spent a quite some time on the actor.All right, this is the end of a prelude; let’s start talking about the actor, Jhj, not his image, from now on.
Right now, he is on hard ground as an actor who is quite popular. His career began by catching the eye by someone who was involved in the entertainment business and became a singer for the group ‘Guardian-idol’ (I don’t think many people know about his history)
and started to work on screen for commercial advertisements. Many people predicted that he had a bright future when they saw his performance in the movie ‘scandal’: this was first movie role. However, in his role in the drama ‘Nine tailed fox’, he tried display a masculine image, instead of sentimentaland romantic, which ended up not being helpful to his career. What is his most memorable work? It is the drama ‘Seodongyo’, in which he reached his two goals; people acknowledged his acting ability and the viewer ratings were really high.
“It is my most memorable work. I really worked so hard during my short acting career. I’ll probably never forget this precious drama until I die.”
Most of the time, he had to wear a wig for over 20 hours a day. He suffered a hair-loss problem because of stress. He had a hard time since he was the main character. He had to memorize many scripts and it was even more difficult because the language was written in ancient style Korean.
He spent almost an entire year just for ‘Seodongyo’. However, he doesn’t have any regrets or even attachments to the role in this drama, since he poured out all his power and energy into its filming. “We live day by day even though we know someday we will die. I think we do not have any reasonto live if we do not enjoy everything, from moment to moment. I think acting is the same as our lives. If I thought of acting as an occupation as opposed to a hobby or an activty I enjoy doing, I would be miserable. I Probably, I could not endure the huge pressure if I could not enjoy acting itself.”
What he said is the truth. Often, stars gain popularity by doing other activities besides acting.
“I consciously tried to avoid other activities except acting. It is nice to see the other side of myself on screen with fancy suits and shoes. I would provide service to my fans in entertainment programs while I laugh and talk a lot. However, I don’t think this is acting. I don’t think there are other,
“correct” places where I can pour out my energy. Of course, stars sometimes experience moments other than acting that they can control and manage and sometimes enjoy. However, I don’t think I have those kinds of abilities. (laugh) I am not good enough to be a good actor. Did you notice that I really thought hard about having today’s interview? (laugh)
“He is right. He was really difficult to have an interview with. I heard there’s a rumor that he feels terrible when taking pictures.
I was afraid of that I would have to confront an impolite and picky face after his interview was arranged. However, he was very patient, and did not show any thoughtless action for an over 3 hour interview and filming. I decided to praise him as a sincere and honest man after I saw a well grown and mature personality, compared to his age. I gave him a personal question.
“What do you do in your spare time?”“To tell you the truth, I don’t have that much time to be alone. I still live with my family since I began acting 7 years ago. Hum, I enjoy riding my bicycle and watching DVD’s. I wear tee shirts and jeans and push pedals along the bank of the Han River. I ride the distance from about YeeyDo to ChungdamDong along the river. It really feels so good when the weather is fine on these days.I feel about one of two drops of sweat falling onto my back. You would not think that this was comfortable moment, judging by harsh breathing and a little bit of tiredness after exercise. Almost nobody recognizes me because I have no make-up on, even though I go out kind of frequently. (laugh) I don’t select special genres when I watch DVD. I don’t have any favorite directors or actors – I just contrast their acting to my own and observe their different directing.”
A 28 year old young actor, who lives with his family and loves to ride a bicycle! This made me think of him as a comforting, young, good looking guy next door. Does it come from his good image? Does he have any desires to act a bad role?
“yes, I do. I watched Al Pachino’s movie ‘scar face’ several times, which is famous for his acting. I think this movie is more than a simple gangster movie. I think his acting is so real and he shows simply more than acting as well. This was made at the year 1983: more than 20 years ago, however, he doesn’t look awkward or unnatural at all even though I watch it to this day. I still can remember his angry face.I surprised myself; my eyes were open wide and I was holding my fists tightly until the movie was over. Al pachino’s ‘scar face’ became the motive for my desire to act a role which is in contrast to my own image. I felt a natural instinct to play in director ‘Gong Soochang’’s movie after I read the script. The movie ‘G.P 506’ is a thriller movie which takes place in the background of an army base.The main theme is about a series of chain murders which occurred in the post guard near the boarder. Jhj’s role in the movie is seagent Yoo Jungwoo, who has a key role in solving this mystery.
People from the entertainment business have great expectations for the movie,This is director Gong’s second movie after ‘R. point’. He used to be a writer then worked as an editorfor the move ‘tell me something’ and ‘ring’. (It is interesting that ‘G P 506’ is the second movie
for both Jhj and the director; Jhj’s first role was in the movie ‘Scandal’.)
The movie is about 80 percent finished and It is scheduled to hit the big screens this summer. I recommend watching this movie as a part of your summer escape.If you are curious about Jhj’s evaluations from the viewers and critics, I hope you do not miss watching this movie. He tried to wash out his original image and tried to show the other side of his personality. I watched him enjoying a cigarette from the distance after the interview. I observed a vein on his rather skinny face, thick and strong neckline, medal like wrinkles which were made by his close to 30 year old age, and deep and enigmatic eyes. Aha, I think I can smell scent of a male animal. However, you will never be exposed to the truly deep and passionate emotions of Jhj.
